Senior Product Manager

NYPA is on the leading edge of the clean energy transition. The Senior Product Manager is responsible for identifying ways to stimulate the adoption of new technologies through identifying customer needs, monitoring and identifying opportunities in the regulatory landscape, developing the business case, and overseeing the design, build, launch and growth of opportunities. The senior product manager is responsible for the commercial success of one or more product(s).


NYPA is actively involved in developing multiple products including decarbonization, new energy efficiency and electrification products, EVs and DERs. The senior product manager must work cross-functionally, unifying, and motivating peers from different teams (e.g., program leads, engineers, shared functions like finance, risk, and others). The senior product manager is an expert on the product’s customers and their needs and often acts as a subject-matter expert for the product, supporting other marketing and sales resources by augmenting their knowledge and filling their knowledge gaps. #LI-JP1


  • Conduct market and customer research to gather insight and understand personas and needs
  • Be a subject matter expert in specific product domains, such as energy efficiency, solar and storage, demand flexibility and e-Mobility.
  • Establish the vision and roadmap for products and communicate them across the organization; link the product roadmap to higher corporate strategy goals
  • Understand the policy and regulatory context impacting the product(s)
  • Identify policy positions and lobbying activities aimed at ensuring the product’s success in the market in partnership with regulatory affairs,
  • Write and present the business case for products
  • Monitor and report on the performance of products in the market
  • Gather competitive intelligence and perform competitive analysis
  • Provide direction to the product development team and oversee product development
  • Coordinate activities to ensure that new offerings include the desired capabilities and launches on time and within budget
  • Provide support to sales (e.g., make prospect/customer calls, provide sales enablement content, contribute to internal and external social communities/blogs/portals)
  • Provide input to portfolio marketing for relevant activities and deliverables (e.g., buyer personas, competitive positioning, market requirements, launch plan)
  • Initiate or manage relevant strategic partnerships as needed
  • Assist in managing and resolving customer escalations as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to conduct market, competitor, and customer research to gather insight, assess market opportunities, and make the case for investment
  • Understanding of energy policy
  • Ability to coordinate with product development, engineering, and other functions for product development and delivery 
  • Relevant market trends, including regulatory, legal, and technology
  • Understanding of product management process 
  • Exhibits analytical, rational, and logical thinking for optimal problem-solving
  • Creative and innovative
  • Empathetic to buyers, customers, users, and sales resources
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, efficient with time management

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of product management, policy, consulting, or utility experience in large organizations
