Sr Analyst Continuous Process Improvement

Summary

The Senior Analyst – Continuous Process Improvement is responsible for supporting business process improvements related to the Customer Energy Solutions (CES) functional area through leading and facilitating project/process improvement teams, solving complex business and system problems, troubleshooting difficult situations, providing individual and group education, preparing system/operational documentation and utilizing Lean/Six-Sigma expertise to promote positive change for the CES team.


The position serves as a change agent leader, promoter, coordinator and key to success of performance enhancement activities.


The Senior Analyst is responsible for resource assignments and deliverables as well as supporting the Director Quality Assurance Quality Control and the Senior Vice President in a fast-paced, demanding environment with a high-level of internal and external exposure. This position plays a significant role in the strategic execution of NYPA’s corporate mission to benefit NYPA’s customers and all New Yorkers.
 

Responsibilities
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop strategies, identify and evaluate areas for improvement, research and offer solutions to resolve problems, eliminate inefficiencies and reduce or mitigate risk to CES operations.
  • Define and communicate monthly goals with a focus on decreased cycle times, while constantly reviewing operations to communicate opportunities for reducing waste, reorganizing workflow and introducing new processes.
  • Leverage various sources of market intelligence, map CES processes, buildout reporting requirements, establish accountability for progress and foster a change culture within the CES group.
  • Make and justify recommendations on CES program structure, workflow, external resource utilization, deploy tools to measure milestone successes and highlight areas where additional attention may be needed.
  • Foster a culture that encourages self-critical, candid and objective evaluation of performance against industry standards of excellence.
  • Strong coordination and collaboration across multiple functional groups within NYPA, and work closely with the VP of Engineering & Construction Management, VP of Business Development & Key Account Management, Senior Director Market Services & Business Controls and other business partners throughout NYPA.
  • Perform market research, quantitative, and statistical analysis that can optimize clean energy services programs and solutions to meet financial, market and customer needs.
  • Lead the continuous improvement process across CES functional areas.
  • Standardize the process, programs and procedures used to identify and track performance that deviates from established thresholds or that are perceived as having the potential to deviate.
  • Identify market needs and solutions by working with other CES teams and external resources.  Examine and evaluate technical studies, energy policy drivers, and customer feedback is critical to program development success.
  • Plan and participate in the execution of trend program development processes, including running models on project phases, cycle time, economics, gathering pricing assumptions and inputs. Communicate the process and potential outcomes to the internal stakeholders.
  • Evaluate business process maps with input from Business Development, Marketing Support & Business Controls and Engineering Construction Management teams to accurately reflect best practices.
  • Develop, recommend adjustments to, and maintain new and existing customer energy solutions program models.
  • Streamline processes for and validate proper service contractor / developer cost assessments to customers.
  • Lead the development of user manuals for new trending and CPI program models and prepares drafts for senior management review and adoption. 
  • Design, develop and deliver educational curriculum for CES trending and continuous process improvement.
  • Prepare and update documentation to include the creation and revision of standard procedures and flow charts.
  • Perform technical and operational analysis for CES Business Processes.
  • Lead the research on energy services quality control, project execution, construction management, cost recovery methods and trends, including monitoring and interpreting competitive business models.
  • Work collaboratively with and integrates Enterprise Risk Management and Internal Audit processes into improvement outcomes.
  • Stay abreast of energy services, construction management / project management and sales trends in public and private utilities.
  • May provide problem solving and other technical assistance to Primavera and CRM users.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of the electric utility industry.
  • Strong understanding of the overall portfolio of energy services programs.
  • Strong knowledge of economics, finance and accounting concepts and theories.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to perform statistical and quantitative analysis.
  • Ability to analyze financial, marketing and utility tariff data and make recommendations to establish strategic benchmarks and goals.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate in-person project improvement initiative meetings. 
  • Ability to assemble and lead project teams. 
  • Ability to identify areas of weakness that the organization can address to improve processes.
  • Ability to establish trend analysis including methodology and implementation processes.
  • Ability to prepare and execute improvement plans in support of CES business processes. 
  • Can facilitate process improvement discussions using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Ability to focus on internal controls, including system access and transaction approvals.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to work with minimal supervision once direction is given.
  • Strong communication skills are essential; ability to clearly explain and present concepts in multiple areas of expertise to peers and management.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, and to assist others in achievement of group goals and foster an environment of cooperation among group members.
  • Ability to develop and present new business practices associated with new customer energy solutions to the Senior and Executive staff when appropriate.
  • Ability to anticipate problems/issues, streamline and propose solutions as appropriate.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects within varying deadlines.
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or Business.
  • Minimum of 10 years of applicable utility/energy experience.
  • Broad familiarity with trend analysis, performance/statistical analysis, process/performance improvement, data integration, causal and business analytics with specific experience and application across utilities is preferred.
  • Proven business and project management experience including the delivery of process improvement solutions.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform standard office work.
  • Approximately 10% primarily NYS based travel.
