Summary
Leads engineering, design and development for the Civil and Mechanical Engineering groups. Leads the Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Hydropower and Transmission Engineering groups, supporting NYPA operations, maintenance, capital project portfolio and regulatory compliance. Ensures coordination of project planning, design execution and emergent project support with the Engineering department, in preparation of design drawings, specifications, calculations. Applies engineering knowledge and technology, industry standards and practices to solve project, operational, or regulatory objectives. This includes wide knowledge of utility industry related engineering, operational procedures, practices, skills. Degree(s) in Civil or Mechanical Engineering discipline preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct oversight and direction of NYPA NERC and NPCC compliance program within Engineering. Accountable for execution of engineering projects, analysis and documentation under NYPA’s compliance responsibility program, contributing the reliability of the Bulk Electric System.
- Lead technical planning and evaluation for the asset management lifecycle of assets.
- Ensure multidiscipline approach to design standards address asset life cycle Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety (RAMS) methodologies and cost targets.
- Facilitate and drive collaboration between Engineering disciplines, and other project stakeholders/customers in fostering a project team environment.
- Enhance compliance program and adhere strictly to existing procedures to further Reliability Standards program. Ensure processes and prioritization for NYPA’s compliance program within Engineering.
- Manage employees including performance management, salary administration, succession planning and workload balancing. Identify and recommend solutions to modify staff to meet goals.
- Develop staff expertise in engineering areas, create development opportunities within and/or between disciplines and maintain depth at critical core competencies within engineering.
- Potential to have a direct role in emergency preparedness, incident management or response and as such will require training in the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
- Responsible for discipline design authority, and serve as engineer of record for engineering design drawings and specifications. Provide professional signature and seal and ensure adherence to configuration management policies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Subject matter expertise in one or more engineering disciplines related to equipment, systems and structures.
- Broad understanding of engineering & design for generation and transmission modifications and upgrades.
- Ability to facilitate and drive collaboration among various disciplines.
- Broad understanding of project management principles and construction activities.
- Broad understanding of equipment and infrastructure planning and asset lifecycle evaluation.
- Strong project collaboration and effective communication skills.
- Strong leadership ability and technical background to develop staff and maintain a highly skilled workforce.
- Ability to respond and adapt to emergent and changing priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, SAP, Maximo, and other platforms as required.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent, from an accredited college or university
- Master of Engineering Degree preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of related work experience.
- New York State P.E License required, or P.E License from another state, with New York State endorsement within 12 months of start date.
- Minimum 3 years of people management experience in the electric utility industry/ electrical construction.

The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
