Summary

The Senior Director, Enterprise Portfolio Management is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing NYPA’s Enterprise Portfolio as well as managing, supporting, and operating the core technology functions in support of the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO). This role ensures that enterprise programs and projects are aligned with organizational goals and are executed efficiently.

 

The Senior Director will work closely with internal stakeholders including Asset Investments and Business Value Optimization teams, to ensure financial modeling, resource capacity and capability allocation, investment decisions, governance processes, and cost optimization strategies are harmonized and support the company's strategic objectives and portfolio, program, and project governance frameworks.

 

The Senior Director will manage a team, and will need prior people management experience, project and portfolio management experience, along with a strong ability to motivate project teams and exhibit excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Implement and execute the strategic vision for enterprise portfolio management and business technology operations, ensuring alignment with the company's overall goals and objectives.
  • Portfolio Management: Oversee the enterprise portfolio management process, including project selection, value frameworks, performance tracking, and benefits management.
  • Systems Integration and Technology Operations: Lead the integration of business systems and technology across the organization, ensuring seamless data flow, operational efficiency, and support for decision-making processes. Oversee the operational management of core technology functions that support the EPMO, ensuring robust and reliable technology infrastructure.
  • Collaboration with Asset Investment Team: Collaborate closely with the Asset Investment Team to ensure that financial modeling, resource capacity and capability allocation, investment and portfolio decisions, and governance processes are aligned with portfolio management strategies.
  • Collaboration with Cost and Value Optimization Team: Partner with the Business Value Optimization Team to integrate cost-efficiency and value maximization strategies into the portfolio management, business systems, and technology operations framework.
  • Governance and Compliance: Maintain core portfolio, program, and project management governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with internal and external regulations and standards.
  • Performance Measurement: Develop and implement metrics and KPIs to measure the performance and impact of portfolio management and technology operations initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders, including senior leadership, business leaders, program manager, project managers, project controls teams and external partners, to ensure alignment and support for enterprise initiatives.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with portfolio management and business technology operations, ensuring that potential issues are proactively managed.
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement, leveraging best practices, emerging technologies, and innovative approaches to enhance portfolio management and business technology operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven managerial, communication and interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to work with various functional groups of all skill levels.
  • Solid understanding of the Utility and adjacent (e.g. energy efficiency, electric transportation, etc.) industries including strategy, operations, finance and management across business functions to have a broad understanding of change impact.
  • Strong leadership and influencing capabilities necessary to align processes across entire business and align emerging strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain trusted partnerships throughout organizations. Ability to advise and influence various groups within the organization of established policies, procedures and business processes to ensure adherence and conformity.
  • An enthusiastic change champion and independent thinker; self-motivated to implement process and procedural innovation and improvement.
  • Proficient across project/portfolio management, project controls and the associated methodologies, techniques, processes and approaches (i.e., Project and Portfolio Management – PPM)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent presentation skills
  • Proven ability to think “big picture” and search for insightful, creative solutions.
  • Demonstrates advanced understanding and application of management approaches for work direction, motivation, and performance management.
  • Proven experience in managing, designing, and supporting enterprise business tools and technologies to ensure seamless operational efficiency and system integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and maintain governance procedures and processes to enhance organizational standards.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical or business-related field required.  An MBA or advanced degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of related experience preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in planning function with budgeting and/or project/portfolio management expertise preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory/management experience preferred
  • Utility industry experience preferred.
     

Physical Requirements

  • Approximately 10% travel throughout New York State.

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $169,010.00 - $232,380.00. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
