Sr Mgr Financial Forecasting & Budgets

Summary

The Senior Manager Financial Forecasting & Budgets, focuses on the development of short-term and long-term financial forecasts used to measure NYPA’s Customer Energy Solutions (CES) financial viability; to provide input into the development of CES and Commercial Operations strategic plans and aid in the assessment and evaluation of CES’s customer credit risks. The position supports preparation of cash flow requirements for CES capital projects, customer revenue forecasts analysis from non-utility operations and reports essential for NYPA’s recovery of the costs of energy efficiency and renewable projects implemented to provide services to our customers. Such activities help identify and provide support for the development of business solutions that allow NYPA to recover the costs and maintain its financial integrity as it supports the mandate to promote the energy efficiency and renewable programs for our customers. 


The Senior Manager supervises and directs the daily functions associated with Cost Accounting, Budgeting and reporting, as well as Billing for CES and continue to expand the support of Commercial Operations in this capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain an automated CES Project Financial Lifecycle Forecast (CES PLF) model that ensures quality financial reports are delivered to senior management on a timely basis.  Identify and recommend opportunities to streamline processes or improve computer model systems.
  • Prepare the Annual CES Project Financial Lifecycle Forecast process including net income and cash-flow projections as it relates to non-utility programs such as Energy Efficiency, New York Energy Manager, Evolve, and other new business lines withing Commercial Operations. 
  • Responsible for the production of the Preliminary and Final Four-Year Budget reports and Financial Plan components related to CES (Energy Efficiency and Renewable) programs, NYEM, and Evolve to satisfy reporting requirements and regulations. 
  • Update, on a monthly and quarterly basis, a revised net income forecast for Energy Efficiency programs and cash-flow projections based on actual data and future trends. Update actuals from SAP in the CES Project Financial Lifecycle Forecast.  Prepare reports for distribution to management.
  • Support the preparation of project-level profit and loss models (Project P&L) including forecasting expected revenue requirements and O&M costs. Monitor monthly and quarterly progress, working with CES teams to ensure costs are allocated and reported under the correct project and customer class, and provide actionable data, analysis, and reviewing results.
  • Assist and support all internal/external stakeholders for all CES and Commercial Operations related inquiries and analytics.
  • Manage and provide strategic direction for the group, conduct performance management, salary administration, succession planning and workload balancing. Identify and recommend solutions to modify staff (regular, temporary and contractor services) to meet NYPA needs.
  • Counsel employees and work to facilitate individual and team development that drives positive results. Model adaptive behavior by demonstrating a proactive attitude and enthusiasm while exhibiting patience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership abilities inclusive of development of talent. High attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness with proven ability in managing multiple deliverable timelines concurrently. Strong interpersonal, organizational influencing and communications skills.
  • Ability to design and implement financial controls and processes. Demonstrated strategic thinking and effectiveness by identifying future needs and problem areas, developing workable solutions, and following through on solutions.  
  • Demonstrated advanced analytical / problem-solving capability to analyze large volumes of data, interpret historical trends, identify key strategic issues and problems, and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to successfully develop and lead teams, provide guidance, support, direction, feedback, etc., and take on independent responsibilities to help meet overall team objectives when necessary
  • Advanced PC-based skills are necessary including proficiency with MS-Access and Excel macros programming (VBA) and knowledge of database systems. Knowledge of Tableau, SQL Server and SAP preferred.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical background in economics, finance, and accounting.  
  • Proficiency with the Energy Efficiency market and programs strongly preferred.
