Strategy Analyst

Summary

NYPA’s Strategy function is growing. The Strategy group, reporting to the SVP of Strategy and Corporate Development, is responsible for organization-wide strategic planning and internal consulting. The Strategy Analyst will be a crucial addition to the team. The Strategy Analyst will work closely with and report to the Strategy Director. The Analyst will work on projects spanning both strategic planning and internal consulting and will focus on various areas of the energy value stream covering generation, transmission, and customer needs. The Strategy Analyst will provide analytical horsepower to internal projects, typically in the areas of innovation, strategy development, or business transformation. Through project work, the Strategy Analyst will develop key working relationships with leaders across the organization.

The Strategy Analyst will help advance NYPA’s VISION2030 strategy through initiatives including: 

  • Strategic planning that drives accountability and transparency across the organization
  • Development of strategies to pursue new opportunities and mitigate risks 
  • Innovation projects that support the effective transformation of NYPA into a leading utility of the future

The Strategy Analyst is expected to be well-organized, exhibit a keen attention to detail, and display a passion for process optimization. #LI-CJ1

Responsibilities

  • Frame hypotheses and initiate targeted research to find the answers.
  • Manage the execution of a workstream. This typically includes developing hypotheses, managing data collection, model creation and analyses, conducting primary and secondary research, creatively tackling information limitations, and surfacing insights.
  • Craft storylines that clearly articulate findings, insights, and recommendations
  • Engagement with key business functions to understand their business needs.
  • Support Strategy Director in delivery of other key strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate key project findings and recommendations to various audiences (e.g., senior NYPA staff, internal and external stakeholders, etc.) by creating and delivering presentations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • Intellectual curiosity, creativity, and drive.
  • Experience in strategic and analytically demanding environments.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in energy/utilities is strongly preferred.
  • Strong quantitative skills (MS Excel) in financial modeling, business case development, etc. Must be able to identify and address data quality gaps and ensure that data is utilized effectively.
  • Strong demonstrated written and oral communications and presentation skills utilizing MS PowerPoint and MS Word.
  • Ability to work well in teams.
  • Ability to look at the big picture and search for insightful, creative solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize among competing needs and opportunities.
  • Enterprising, resourceful, and results oriented.
  • Pro-active, collaborative and strategic.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Strong background in conceptual problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Track record of performing against tight deadlines in a demanding environment.
  • Outstanding communication skills; confidence in presenting to senior executives.
  • Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in Business/Economics, Engineering, or other related/applicable discipline)

Physical Requirements

Approximately 10% travel primarily within NY State, some out of state travel
