Developmental Intern - Graphic Design

Location: White Plains, NY, US

This select 12-week paid internship program begins June 2019 and ends August 2019.

Summary

The intern will work on various projects during their time with us. They would work on styling reports for various business units, promoting employee engagement programs, advertising and promotion of annual Visitors Center events, support materials for press events, and using data to develop info graphics for press releases and social media. They will also be involved with developing materials for NYPA's presence the NY  State Fair.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities the intern will walk away with after this internship

 

Knowledge:

  • They will hone their skills in InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop as well as with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • They will also understand about team work and synergy between various disciplines in Corporate Communications and through out a large corporate environment.

 

Skills:

  • The experience an intern will receive from working with us is to have worked in a professional design studio.
  • They will learn about production for output by service bureaus as well as the requirements for 4-color printing and production of digital graphics.
  • They will come away with portfolio pieces that will be real jobs.
  • They will learn about the utility industry and hoe an in-house graphic design unit is a benefit to an organization like NYPA.

 

Abilities:

  • The candidate's experience will be expanded by exposure to the pace and shared knowledge from graphic design business professionals at various stages of their careers.

Education, Experience and Certifications

 

Technical Competencies:

  • The candidate should have a foundation in the following: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is a plus as is Prezi
  • Knowledge of production for both commercial printing and for digital technologies is important.

 

Behavioral Competencies:

  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to take directions
  • Get along with others

 

Education Background:

  • Pursuing an undergradate degree with a focus in graphic design or related major
