Temporary Construction Operations Coordinator

Summary
Accountable for the daily management and coordination of NYPA’s overall operations, including Overseeing, monitoring, and evaluating the operational performance; directing the preparation of operating budgets and proposals for capital expenditure and investments in infrastructure, technology, equipment, systems, or other assets and resources; analyzing and approving operational investments that best meet the organization's business needs.
Provide direct oversight of contractors and onsite management of construction projects. Develop and execute construction strategies for various projects. Ensure that quality workmanship is maintained at all times and in accordance with applicable construction procedures, methods, codes and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Work under supervision, receiving advice and guidance from Construction Engineers/Specialists and Senior Construction Engineers/Specialists, as well as the Resident Construction Manager. All work is checked while in progress and reviewed for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform a variety of tasks that are planned to provide additional experience and familiarize the engineer with his/her work group, engineering methods, construction management methods, practices, and programs of the Authority.
- Tasks are limited in scope but build on previous experience.
- Prepare daily construction logs documenting progress.
- Review contract specifications and drawings to familiarize oneself with the scope of work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Solid quantitative skills with the ability to analyze data and report results.
- Requires general engineering knowledge and construction knowledge and standard practice, and a basic understanding of the utility industry.
- Written communications skills must be at a level at which the incumbent can request data, summarize analysis findings, and write routine internal memos.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Basic verbal communication skills are necessary to interact with others in the unit/department.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Requires a high school diploma, GED certificate or associates degree.
- Minimum of 1 year of construction or project management experience.
Physical Requirements
- Daily inspection of work areas throughout facility.
- Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses is required.
- Some travel within New York State may be required.
