Our paid Summer Developmental Internship, running from June 6 - August 5, is a two-month program hybrid internship including virtual and in-person experiences.  As an Intern, you will receive professional development, on-the-job experience in the energy industry, exposure to executives, and networking opportunities to help build a solid foundation for your future career.

The Summer Developmental Intern program is ideal for a college or graduate-level student interested in:

  • Exploring how hydropower, energy efficiency, electric vehicles and various exciting initiatives at NYPA are changing the power industry
  • Seeing firsthand what it’s like to work for New York State
  • Learning about NYPA’s commitment to New York State citizens and the communities where our generation facilities are located
  • Learning about our various energy sites to see how our power is made and how important it is to provide reliable electricity in New York
  • Gaining a foundation on the energy regulations that govern our industry

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for legal research, analyzing regulations, and drafting memoranda of law.
  • Provide general litigation support and assistance to the Law Department attorneys for current legal and compliance matters.
  • Prepare reports.
  • Perform and document research to determine the rights and duties of the Authority in its various projects.
  • Interact with Authority departments to gain input for legal department cases.
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel and other attorneys.

  • Excellent written, oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and as a team.
  • Ability to prioritize competing requests and deadlines.
  • Exacting attention to detail and ability to prioritize.
  • Professional demeanor; excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems, develop solutions, and deliver results quickly and proactively.
  • Strong technical skills in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access as well as the ability to learn new software and applications.
  • Work well within a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Self-starter and highly motivated.
     

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Must be matriculated in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited institution at the time of application, law school preferred
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the internship
  • Be available on the designated start date on June 6th

Minimal travel within NY State
