Temporary Sustainability Project Analyst

Summary

The Sustainability group is responsible for developing the sustainability strategy and plans for NYPA and the Canal Corp., managing performance and preparing annual reports. The Sustainability Program aligns with and supports the strategic vision and New York State’s ambitious climate and energy goals.

 

The Sustainability Analyst is responsible for specific program areas and works on a variety of projects and initiatives. Specifically, we are looking for candidates who have experience in sustainable supply chain/waste reduction, or ESG reporting experience to support projects in these areas. 

 

The Analyst will need experience within corporate, educational or research-based sustainability and/or environmental programs, strong analytical skills, and project management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Director of Sustainability, manage projects across NYPA business units and departments: define project scope, develop detailed work plans, and coordinate project teams involving multiple stakeholders. 
  • Conduct analysis of company performance data, including statistical analysis, cost/benefit analysis and life-cycle analysis.
  • Develop tools and resources for data and performance management.
  • Research and analyze industry data to support the development of strategy, policies and programs.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external use.
  • Prepare training materials as needed.   

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; proficiency in statistical analysis, cost/benefit analysis and life cycle analysis preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Ability to work independently; must be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in teams and to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills for internal and external audiences.
  • Knowledge of energy and sustainability issues.
  • Knowledge of sustainable operations preferred.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelors Degree required.
  • Knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues.
  • Proficiency in Excel and statistical software.
  • 1- 2 years of project management experience; direct experience working on sustainable operations, preferred.

Physical Requirements

Approximately 10% travel primarily within New York State.
