Summary
Provide field engineering function within SENY Transmission. Field Engineer will provide technical guidance on matters related to electrical (i.e., power transformers, instrument transformers, reactors, PARS, Transmission Cable, GIS, breakers, relay protection, etc.) and mechanical components (i.e., fan, pumps, fluid filled cable dielectric auxiliary systems, etc.) directly to SENY Transmission personnel. Some functions may include, but not be limited to providing recommendations to SENY Personnel on corrective measures after field assessments are conducted. The Field Engineer will also issue, review, and approve test letters to maintenance personnel during any corrective or preventative maintenance work. Field Engineer will ensure that standards of quality, cost, safety, reliability, timeliness and performance are met throughout all engineering activities.
Responsibilities
- Provide lead engineer function in support of a limited range of transmission projects, design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities.
- Perform site visits to complete field inspections, condition assessments, and equipment evaluations and develop basic technical recommendations
- Perform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
- Independently coordinate cross disciplinary activities for the successful development and execution of projects.
- Select and apply codes, standards, and procedures to work tasks appropriately.
- Perform inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and Authority specifications are satisfied.
- Provide direction and review in the development of the project engineering documents and submittals.
- May be assigned to a supervisory position in the absence of First Line Supervisor.
- Supports transmission crews on research, investigation, calculation specification, inspection, maintenance, and repairs of transmission lines and right of way.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Competency in the design, operation, and maintenance of [electrical, mechanical, structural, water] systems specific to the electric utility industry.
- Fundamental knowledge of Transmission/Utility – make discipline specific - commercial and industrial facilities and their various systems and components].
- Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaborative and team-oriented with ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations, and complete specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.
- Ability to coordinate the technical and commercial aspects of projects.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Working experience with a [Civil/Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, Planning, water flow] design or forecasting software such as [identify software] preferred.
- Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects.
- Knowledge of ever-changing deregulation of electric utility business as it relates to transmission line maintenance.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in [Electrical, Mechanical, Civil] Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience preferred.
- New York State Engineer in Training certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Approximately 50% travel primarily within NY State.
- Ability to walk and drive on uneven and rough terrain for prolonged periods of time on a regular basis.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying degrees of weather, on various terrain, in various settings (i.e. wooded areas, etc.)
