Summary

Lead the creation and implementation of strategic messaging frameworks for NYPA, ensuring that new narratives, value propositions, and key messages resonate with diverse audiences. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain consistency and effectiveness across all communication channels and campaigns. Spearhead comprehensive strategies that align with NYPA's business objectives and the dynamic energy market. Establish core messaging pillars and thought leadership topics to support NYPA's annual external relations and communications plan, working with industry organizations and political entities to amplify NYPA's expertise in energy innovation and sustainability. 
 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of strategic messaging frameworks that articulate a new narrative for NYPA, value propositions, and key messages to diverse audiences with varying needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure messaging alignment and effectiveness across all communication channels and campaigns.
  • Spearhead the development and execution of comprehensive strategies that align with NYPA's business objectives and market dynamics within the energy industry.
  • Establish messaging pillars and thought leadership topics to support the annual external relations and communications plan.
  • Collaborate with industry organizations and political entities to amplify NYPA's subject matter experts and capture research to support thought leadership topics focused on energy innovation and sustainability.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and research customer insights within the energy sector to inform brand strategies, messaging frameworks, and positioning decisions.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to continuously evolve NYPA's brand strategy and messaging approach.
  •  Build and lead a high-performing team, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Expertise in developing and executing comprehensive brand strategies, including brand message frameworks.
  • Exceptional writing skills—both technical and creative—to bring NYPA's brand story to life internally and externally.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to deliver exceptional results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Deep understanding of marketing principles, customer insights, and emerging trends in digital marketing and communications within the energy sector.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling and innovation in brand strategy and messaging within the context of the energy industry.
  • Proficiency in conducting competitive analysis and leveraging customer insights to inform strategic decisions.
  • Strong ability to negotiate, compromise, and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including political entities and industry organizations.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with a leadership role in external relations, messaging, content and brand strategy development within the energy industry, with a strong understanding of regulatory and political landscapes.

Physical Requirements

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $188,000 - $250,000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
